Why I Coach
I tripped and fell into hockey (literally) after signing my three kids up for Ignition in February 2024 so they could learn to skate. Ignition turned into DEVO ... which turned into a full fall season with a Mite…
After months of watching the kids on the ice, I asked Coach Bob if I could volunteer on the ice, and he said I could help the kids with the walkers. I was hooked and have been on the ice helping the kids learn the basics since November 2024.
Coming in cold to the Komets and not knowing anyone, or even the sport, I have a passion for making new families feel welcome to the world of hockey, and specifically the Komets community.
Coaching Approach
It’s not about hockey, or being the best - it’s about trying to learn something new every day, falling down and learning to get back up, providing constant encouragement, support, and making new friends. It’s about helping the kids be the best they can be on and off the ice.
Coaching Experience
Coach Buchta is a committed and passionate hockey coach with a strong foundation in youth development and athletics. As a parent of three and a solid 18 months as a dedicated hockey mom, she brings an understanding of nurturing young athletes’ growth, fostering inclusivity, and building resilience.

"Don’t worry mama, we fell when we first started too”
Abby's three kids to her when she tried rollerblading for the first time in 20 years ... and fell after 5 minutes. They kept skating. (...she later found out she broke her arm.)
