Birdie Leitza Hockey Grant
Kenosha Komets are very excited to announce our 2nd Annual Birdie Leitza Hockey Grant!
Our annual Alumni Game serves as the primary fundraiser for the Birdie Leitza Hockey Grant program and enables our vision of giving back to our kids a reality. The funds raised at the Alumni Game made it possible to split the funds into six grants, one awarded to a player at each age level.

Application Process
Application Deadline
Applications for the grants will be accepted until FALL Tryouts. Please ensure you have submitted your packet by then to be considered for a grant. Winners will be announced at our Welcome Back to Hockey Event scheduled for September 6, 2025. Winners need not be present to win.
Grant Levels
Due to the generosity of participants and attendees at the Alumni Game, we are able to offer the following grant amounts:
- 6U: $250 Grant
- 8U: $250 Grant
- 10U: $500 Grant
- 12U: $500 Grant
- 14U: $500 Grant
- 18U: $500 Grant
Essay Topics
Essay topics are specific to each age group:
- 6U: What is your favorite thing about playing hockey?
- 8U: Who is your favorite teammate and why?
- 10U: How have you helped your teammates during your games?
- 12U: Why is being part of the Kenosha Komets hockey team important to you?
- 14U: How has hockey shaped who you are, off the ice?
- 18U: What has playing hockey taught you about working through challenges?
Application Submission
Please complete an cover sheet (document above) and submit it with your essay to Director of Promotions Shelly Rudy. You can submit it either with a hard copy given to Shelly at the rink, or by emailing it to Shelly at promotions@kenoshakomets.com. The essay must be submitted by FALL tryouts!
How Are the Winners Selected?
The essays will be de-identified so they can be read anonymously. The Board will not know who the winners are until the winning essays have been selected.
You do not need to be present at the Welcome Back to Hockey Event to win the grant .... but we would love to see you there!
