Program Information
The Kenosha Komets are the only competitive level, Tier II hockey organization in Kenosha County
The mission of our organization is to help youth of all ages and skill levels to develop as athletes, leaders, and members of the community. We offer a COMPETITIVE youth hockey program for our 6U through 18U teams. We emphasize excellence in teamwork, discipline, sportsmanship and character building. We distinguish ourselves by offering a hockey program that provides players with individual growth to reach their maximum potential both on and off the ice.
Season
The fall season generally runs from September through February, with potential to go into March for those teams who earn their spot in the WAHA State Championship.
Tune-Ups & Evaluations/Tryouts
Tune-Ups
Tune-Ups are structured pre-season/pre-tryout clinics to allow the opportunity for our players to get re-acclimated to the ice after the summer break. Core focus will be on sharpening edge control, stickhandling, passing and shooting to prepare for tryouts.
Our 14Us will also have a mandatory checking clinic.
Evaluations/Tryouts
There are multiple times scheduled for 8U through 18U levels. While it is not mandatory that your player attend each evaluation/tryout, attending all sessions is STRONGLY recommended to give your player the best opportunity to be placed on a team of their skill level.
Please arrive 30 minutes prior to your scheduled time make sure you have time to check-in and be dressed and ready to hit the ice on time.
Try-outs are closed to spectators. Parents will not be able to be in the rink during try-outs. Please plan accordingly.

Kenosha Komets Teams
Our Kenosha Komets teams are structured by age groups as defined by USA Hockey birth years. Decisions on team placement are made by the Hockey Director based upon each player's individual performance at evaluations/tryouts.
6U Cross-Ice and 8U Half-Ice Hockey
6U cross-ice and 8U half-ice are “Grow the Game” programs meant to develop the skills of the players involved and grow their love of the game with as many puck touches as possible. Our teams provide opportunities for our younger players to learn the skills needed to develop into stronger players and will prepare them for competitive hockey at the 10U level ... and beyond!
This is not just a fun way to play—it’s the best way for young players to develop the skills they need to succeed at those higher levels. With more puck touches, faster decision-making, better player engagement, and a stronger focus on individual skills, cross-ice hockey gives our players the tools they need to thrive in the future while keeping them excited and involved in the game.

Payment Policy
Non-refundable Tryout Deposit
A non-refundable tryout fee/deposit (6U-8U: $150 and 10U-18U: $350) is required to register all youth hockey players. This is not an additional fee but rather a deposit towards your fall fees. Once tryouts have concluded and your player has been placed on a team roster, your player commits to playing for the Komets, regardless of team level they are placed on (e.g., 10U A, 10U B, etc.). Should you withdraw your player from the Komets after tryouts have begun, you will be liable for the non-refundable tryout fee. If you withdraw your player from the Komets after practices have begun, you are liable for full season fees. If your player is not placed on a team, a full refund (including the tryout fee/deposit) will be issued to you within two weeks of tryouts.
Take Advantage of our Installment Plan!
Families have two options for how registration fees will be charged to each player’s account. Payments can only be processed by either a credit card or ACH account via one of the two options listed. Using an ACH account will save you credit card processing fees.
Option 1: Pay Registration Fees in Full
Families can pay registration fees in-full at the time of registration with a credit card or ACH account.
Pay with your ACH account to avoid credit card processing fees!
Option 2: Pay Registration Fees on an Installment Plan
After paying the non-refundable tryout fee, the remaining registration fee balance will be spread over five monthly installments plan to be charged to the credit/debit card on file on the 9th of each month, beginning on September 9.
There is a 30 day grace period on installment payments. Late fees will be incurred if the payment is charged after the grace period. For example, if your installment payment amount is $275 and your late fee is $25 after 30 days, the card will be charged $300 on the 31st day after the installment payment was originally scheduled.
Financial Commitment
If you have selected the installment plan for registration, you are committing to making payments on that schedule. If your payment is declined and does not process on the day that it was scheduled and becomes past due, you will have 30 days to update your form of payment, or setup a special payment plan with the club. Your child will not be able to participate in any on-ice or or off-ice activities until your financial obligation is corrected and current.

What Other Expectations Are There?
Birthdate Validation
If you are new to the Kenosha Komets this season, it is a USA Hockey requirement that your players have their birth certificate verified. Please bring the ORIGINAL birth certificate to tryouts for validation. It must be an original birth certificate with the raised seal and watermark; copies cannot be accepted. If you have already had your birth certificate verified with the Komets, you will not need to bring it again. You are good to go!
Parent Meetings
NEW PARENT'S MEETING: We will be holding a special meeting for our families who are new to the Kenosha Komets on Monday, 8/24 at 6:00 p.m. at the rink.
MANDATORY PARENT'S MEETING: We will kick off the new season with an all-club, mandatory parent’s meeting on Wednesday, 8/26 at 7:00 p.m. at the rink.
Topics covered will include code of conduct, volunteer hours commitment, information on tryouts, details of the team selection process, fundraising opportunities, Club Wide Raffle Ticket Fundraiser, and other events. The Kenosha Komets is a volunteer organization and we are dependent upon the commitment of our volunteers and support of our fundraising opportunities. This includes team raffles as well as our keynote, organization-wide raffle fundraising event that takes place during our fall season and awarded at our annual awards banquet.
The Kenosha Komets Parent's Guide provides a comprehensive resource of critical information you need to know including club policies and requirements of the organizations we are affiliated with. It is your responsibility to ensure you adhere to these requirements; it is recommended you review the guide prior to coming to the parent's meeting and ask questions for clarity.
VOLUNTEERING
Volunteer Hours Commitment: As a volunteer run organization, the Kenosha Ice Arena is owned and maintained by our members! This is something we should all be very proud of! In order to keep our facility in working order and our registration fees low, we ask all members to commit to support our kids and our rink by volunteering. During this coming Fall Hockey Season, each family will be required to fulfill a minimum of 20 volunteer hours. There are many opportunities to volunteer around our home ice in support of our Komets teams and special events.
Volunteer Buyout: If you know that you will not be able to fulfill your minimum 20 volunteer hours, we do also offer an option to buyout your volunteer hour commitment for $400. You will have this option during registration.
Volunteer Deposit: In the past, we have had many families go way above and beyond by completing not only their hours but many, many more to help maintain our rink and support our Komets organization. We have also had families who knew they were not able to commit to the minimum hours prefer to pay a fee to buy out their hours. Unfortunately, we also have a few families who choose not to complete any volunteer hours nor pursue the buy out. To level the playing field and ensure accountability, we require every family to bring a postdated check written out to the Kenosha Komets in the amount of $400. Parents are asked to postdate a check to March 1, 2027 and bring it with then when they come to evaluations/tryouts. The check will be held and, once you have completed all of your hours of volunteer support, it will be shredded. However, if by March 1st you have chosen to not complete your minimum 20 hours, your check will be deposited after that date. For any families who do not use checks, you will be asked to sign an agreement that you understand that you will be billed $20 per hour for any volunteer hours that have not been completed by the end of the season.
Komets Raffle Tickets
Our rink is member owned and maintained. To help keep our registration fees low and offset the cost to maintain our facility and the equipment in our rink, we hold an annual cash raffle. Each family will be asked to sell 30 raffle tickets at $10 each. Of course, families can sell more tickets if they choose - and we will have a contest to see who sells the most! We will pass out raffle tickets to all families by the first week of practice. Monies will be due by the Alumni Game (watch for the date!).
Komets Offer Several Opportunities to Earn Funds Towards Your Fees!
Raise Right Fundraising Program
The Kenosha Komets partnered with Raise Right Fundraising a few years back to give our families another opportunity to earn money towards their fees! Raise Right (formerly known as Script) is a gift card program where you purchase gift cards or ecards directly from their website or app and earn a certain percentage of each purchase.
Milwaukee Brewers Concessions
The Kenosha Komets have partnered with the Milwaukee Brewers for an outstanding opportunity for our families to earn money that would be credited directly to your families fall fees. Any family member 16+ is eligible to participate in this program by volunteering to work in the concession stands during Milwaukee Brewers Games and additional venue events.
Birdie Leitza Hockey Grant
We hold an Alumni Game each year as a fundraiser to make our vision of giving back to our kids a reality. We split the proceeds from the Alumni Game into grants to be awarded to one player at each of our hockey levels.
Essays are due at evaluations / tryouts!
Sponsorship Credit
Sponsorship partnerships are available with the Kenosha Komets! We have a variety of opportunities from banners at the Kenosha Ice Arena to full team sponsorship! For Komets families, YOU can benefit as well!
